Ellie Black has been missing for 2 years when she is found by hikers in the woods of Washington State. Detective Chelsey Calhoun is brought in to find out where she’s been. Ellie doesn’t want to talk about what happened to her. We learn that Ellie was taken by a man who lived in the woods with several young women.
Chelsey has her own demons; her sister was abducted and murdered by her boyfriend twenty years ago though her body was never found. So she has built a career in looking for missing girls and she’s good at it.
Initially I wasn’t sure about the main character, Chelsey, but I soon warmed to her. This was a good read, though not my favourite book by Emiko Jean.
