Book 4 of the Harper Connelly Series
Harper and Tolliver want to visit their little sisters Mariella and Gracie. They are the daughters of Harper’s mother and Tolliver’s father who live with Harper’s aunt Iona and her husband Hank in Texas. On the way to them, they stop off at the Joyce ranch, because Lizzy Joyce has some questions about her grandfather’s death. When Lizzy and her siblings find out that her father’s housekeeper died after giving birth, they want to find out what happened to the child (and whether the baby was their grandfather’s offspring).
Right after Harper and Tolliver are visited by Tolliver’s father Matthew at their hotel in Dallas, Tolliver is shot. He’s taken to hospital where he stays for a few days. In that time, Manfred Bernardo comes to Dallas to help Harper with her investigation into her sister Cameron’s disappearance.
Oh where do I start on this one? Matthew Lang is toxic! And thankfully for Harper, Tolliver knows it and will have nothing to do with him. However, his brother Mark is an entirely different story. Mark craves Matthews approval and attention. He has allowed Matthew to move in with him after he was released from prison.
I did not like Matthew or Mark at all. The series is definitely cozy mysteries, but this one does have a very sad and a happy ending too.
Onto the next Charlaine Harris series to review…
