Astonish Me

American Joan has always dreamt of being a ballerina and has worked at it since the age of 4. In 1975, she helps a Russian ballet dancer defect to the US and she briefly becomes famous. They have a brief but passionate love affair, but when their love wanes so does Joan’s fame. She decides to marry her childhood friend and has a son, Harry.

Joan starts teaching ballet, and the girl who lives next door, Chloe, becomes her protégé. And her son Harry is a very talented ballet dancer, a prodigy even. Harry is obsessed with Arslan Rusakov, the Russian his mother helped defect.

It took me a few chapters to get into the story, but once I got there, there was no stopping me.
