The Room on Rue Amélie by Kristin Harmel

The Room on Rue Amélie

Ruby Henderson Benoit is newly married to Marcel when war breaks out in France. She had imagined the start of her marriage differently, by walking down the boulevards in Paris. When Marcel is arrested, Ruby finds herself alone, and then a young Englishman, Thomas, knocks on her door looking for her husband. Thomas is wounded and Ruby nurses him back to health.

When Ruby’s neighbours, the Dachers, are taken away leaving their eleven-year-old daughter Charlotte behind. Ruby asks Charlotte to move in with her and Thomas.

Kristin Harmel is one of the best when it comes to World War 2 fiction. Every single one has kept me entertained and I’ve liked/loved them all. This one was good, but I didn’t like it as much as some of her previous books, but it’s definitely worth reading!
