After Aurora ‘Roe’ Teagarden inherited a lot of money, she leaves her job at the library. Her mother tries her to get to work for her, and when Roe shows a newcomer to Laurenceton, Martin Bartell and his sister Barby a house, they discovers a dead body in the master bedroom. The dead woman is competing estate agent Tonia Lee Greenhouse.
Next to the shock of the gruesome discovery, the meeting with Martin shakes Roe to the core. Though she’s still dating father Aubrey Scott, she’s extremely attracted to Martin and the feeling appears to be mutual. Martin actively pursues her, and Roe decides to break up with Aubrey. Not everyone agrees with Roe dating Martin, her ex Arthur Smith tries to convince her that Martin is a bad man and considers him a suspect in Tonia Lee’s murder.
Then another estate agent is found dead and it appears that this killer is targeting people in this profession. Roe investigates the murders alongside the police. Will she crack the case?
