When the book starts Casey is getting for a big storm. She’s been living in a cabin in the woods for about six months. Shortly after her landlord leaves (leaking roof), she notices someone near her tool shed. When she goes over to investigate, she finds a teenage girl hiding in her shed. Casey convinces the girl to come into her house with promises of food. While the two sit out the storm, Casey tries to get information from the girl, Eleanor, but she isn’t forthcoming.
There’s a second timeline in this book: Ella, a 13 year old, is teased in school and at home she has to deal with a mother who locks her in a closet when she goes out in case Ella tries to throw out any of the treasures she’s hoarding.
Like most of Frieda McFadden’s books, I really enjoyed this one. I really liked the twist!
