Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay

Book 2 of the Dexter series.

Dexter and his sister Deborah go out for lunch and then get called to the scene of a crime. They discover the most gruesome scene: a victim who has had his extremities amputated, his eyelids, lips and tongue have been removed too. Dexter is intrigued and helps Deb investigate this case.

Then Deb’s boyfriend Kyle goes missing, and his finger with his ring appears at Deb’s house. Rita, Dexter’s girlfriend, finds the ring when it rolls out of Dexter’s pocket and assumes he’s proposing to her. Now Dexter is suddenly engaged in the middle of the investigation. While they’re searching for Kyle, Dexter’s nemesis Sergeant Albert Doakes goes missing too…

This book is rather gruesome but I did enjoy it (I liked the gory details…). I like Dexter as a character. We know he’s not the good guy, because he’s a serial killer – however, he only kills people who have evaded punishment by the law for heinous crimes. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!
