The Book of Magic by Alice Hoffman

The Book of Magic

Book 4 of the Practical Magic series

“Read as many books as you can. Choose courage over caution. Take time to visit libraries. Look for light in the darkness. Have faith in yourself. Know that love is what matters most.

Jet Owens hears the death watch beetle and knows he’s ticking for her – her life is about to end. So she makes sure all her affairs are in order. She says goodbye to her sister, her nieces and grandnieces, the reverend (the father of her first love Levi) and to Rafi, who she now realises was her true love. They met every six months in the city but never had a ‘real’ relationship.
Antonia Owens is a medical student and she’s pregnant with her first child. She isn’t in a relationship and the fathers of the child are a couple of doctors. She’s perfectly content with the situation. Then she meets her aunt Jet’s lawyer and the two women instantly feel a connection.

Kylie Owens’ boyfriend has an accident and is in a coma. Kylie is grief stricken and she knows about a text her ancestor Faith Owens had in her possession that might help her get her boyfriend back. She knows it is left handed magic, but she doesn’t care. The library has the book and it takes her to Maria Owens’ ancestral home in England.
Franny, Gillian and Sally follow Kylie to England to try to find her while Antonia stays in the States. Will they be able to find Kylie before too much damage was done?

An excellent ending to the Practical Magic series. And when I found out that there will be a screen version of this book, I was really excited. I can’t wait!
