Sweetpea by CJ Skuse

Sweetpea

Book 1 of the Sweetpea Series

Rhiannon Lewis is an aspiring journalist who works at a newspaper as an editorial assistant, she lives with her fiancé Craig, who is a builder, and her dog Tink. Her sister Seren moved to the States a decade ago and is pressuring her to sell their late parents’ house. There’s a problem with that though, Rhiannon uses the house for some unorthodox extracurricular activities. For that reason, Rhiannon has taken the house off the market.

On her way home one night, Rhiannon is sexually assaulted by a man, but before he can hurt her, she has taken her knife out and cut his penis off.

A junior reporter called AJ Pierce keeps flirting with Rhiannon and they do get together. However, soon after Rhiannon finds out she’s pregnant, she kills AJ.

Rhiannon is aware of her fiancé’s affair with her colleague Lana. For this reason, Rhiannon frames Craig for a few other murders she committed.
This is a hilarious book; I stumbled upon it years ago in an Amazon sale. Every chapter starts with Rhiannon’s kill list of the day. Some are of specific people, some are general like “people who wear crocs”. We find out why Rhiannon kills, her past trauma and her current issues. She’s not a likeable person, but you can’t help hoping she’ll get away with it so there will be another book.
