Foul Heart Huntsman by Chloe Gong

Foul Heart Huntsman

Book 2 of the Foul Lady Fortune Duology
Book 4 of the Secret Shanghai Series

Rosalind Lang must rescue her husband Orion Hong, who’s memory has been wiped, from his brainwashing mother in this book.

Rosalind’s true identity is exposed and she’s forced into the open. She manipulates her Nationalist superiors to let her tour the country, which gives her an excellent cover to try to find Orion. During her travels, Rosalind meets up with her cousin Juliette and her husband Roma Montagov – who were presumed dead by the general public – who aid her in stopping Lady Hong from using a deadly super-soldier serum. To find an antidote for this serum the former White Flowers head scientist, Lourens van Dijk, is the primary mastermind who works on refining and utilizing the scientific cure.

Orion (Oliver) is mortally wounded during a battle and when Lady Hong and Rosalind try to rescue him with a life-saving serum. However, Orion injects Rosalind with the serum granting her true immortality. Rosalind’s blood containing the cure saves Orion’s life. They choose to move forward together while war (Japanese invasion) lurks on the horizon…

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as Foul Lady Fortune, but it was still very enjoyable. Though it’s historical fantasy, it gives one a good insight into 1920s China.
