Baroness Emma Orczy (1865–1947) was a Hungarian-born British novelist and playwright best known for creating The Scarlet Pimpernel. Initially a painter, she achieved massive success with her 1905 novel and play featuring Sir Percy Blakeney, a fop-disguised hero rescuing French aristocrats. She penned dozens of romantic adventure novels, sequels, and early mystery fiction.
