George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950) was a pioneering Irish playwright, critic, and socialist who transformed Western theatre. Over his lifetime, he penned more than 60 plays. Renowned for his biting wit, he won the 1925 Nobel Prize in Literature and an Academy Award for the screenplay adaptation of his masterpiece, Pygmalion.
