Dame Ngaio Marsh (1895–1982) was a renowned New Zealand author and theatre director, celebrated as one of the four original “Queens of Crime” alongside Agatha Christie. She wrote 32 detective novels featuring Inspector Roderick Alleyn, known for their polished, theatrical style. A major figure in NZ cultural life, she was made a Dame (DBE) in 1966.
