Honor Harris is 18 years old when she meets Richard Grenvile, and they fall in love. Then Honor has a riding accident which leaves her crippled and she has to resign herself to a life alone. Richard joins the army and rises through the ranks, and is despised by all, even his ex-wife and children. When Richard and Honor meet again decades after her accident, their love for each other still persists after all these years. Her family is on the opposite side of Richard, who now is the king’s general, on the side of a free Cornwall.
This was a difficult read, slow for me, it took me a few days to get through. I preferred Rebecca and Jamaica Inn by Du Maurier.
