Mrs Harris Goes to Paris & Mrs Harris Goes to New York by Paul Gallico

Mrs Harris goes to Paris

Books 1 and 2 of the Mrs Harris series

Mrs Harris goes to Paris: Mrs Harris is a cleaning lady (charlady) and when she comes across a gorgeous dress at one of her customers´ homes, she starts dreaming about owning a dress like that, made by the famous Christian Dior. And when she wins some money, she decides to put it aside for her very own Dior dress. After almost three years of scrimping and saving every penny, she has enough money to go to Paris to purchase the dress…

In Mrs Harris goes to New York, Ada Harris takes it upon herself to look for the biological father of a little boy in her neighbourhood. The boy’s mother passed away and he’s maltreated by his foster family. All Mrs Harris knows is the father’s name, and that he’s an American. When one of her clients asks her to go with them to New York, Mrs Harris takes the boy and smuggles him aboard the ship to New York. In America, she starts looking for the boy’s father thinking he’ll embrace his son when he meets him…

I had watched the film Mrs Harris goes to Paris a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. I tend to favour thrillers and anime (specifically Studio Ghibli) but this film was so lovely!

Of course there are differences between the book and the film, but both were lovely.

Mrs Harris goes to New York was lovely too, I’d love to see a film of that as well!
