This is a prequel to The Hunger Games, book 0.5 in the series
This book describes the Quarter Quell, the fiftieth annual Hunger Games. This year twice the amount of tributes are to compete in the games: 4 people per district. One of the tributes for district 12 is Haymitch Abernathy who is afraid he’ll never see the girl he loves again. Lenore is on his mind throughout the games.
Haymitch witnesses some terrible deaths in the arena, a few at his own hands – and almost dies himself in the final encounter. However, he survives and is declared the winner. He’s ecstatic at the thoughts that he will see his Lenore again…
I was really looking forward to this book as I loved the The Hunger Games trilogy. Haymitch’s story is sad and it explains his actions in the later books.
