Red, an orphaned teenager, looks for information about her mother. She leaves her adopted father’s home in Bath and travels to London to find out more about her. While she gets close to her grandmother, unbeknownst to her grandmother, she starts telling fortunes as she knows how to read the cards in the Square of Sevens fashion.
Red soon becomes a confidante to her grandmother and then she learns that the woman who she thought was her mother Luna is still alive. When she reveals herself as her long lost daughter, the woman refuses to believe her because her then husband was seen jumping off a cliff with their newborn daughter in his arms.
Red is invited to their country retreat in Devon though, even though Luna is dead set against it. When the rest of the family finds out, they want to use Red as a pawn in their lawsuit against Luna.
A very well crafted tale, I really enjoyed this. I didn’t expect the twist at the end…
