Cassandra in Reverse by Holly Smale

Cassandra in Reverse

In the first chapter Cassandra Penelope Dankworth loses everything she has going for her:

  1. Her boyfriend Will – even though he thinks she’s a wonderful person and still wants to remain friends with her, and
  2. Her Job as a marketing consultant because her client doesn’t like her, and thinks she’s weird.

She tells us about these life altering events and then after she’s had a nap, Will shows up at her door to take her to dinner. Cassie is confused, but decides to go out with him even if the whole thing is very deja vu. After they spend the night together, Will breaks up with her again. This is when Cassie realised she travelled in time. But how?

Cassie blinks and she’s travelled back to the day she met Will, four months in the past. She has a do-over! Every time she messes up, or when something goes wrong, she just closes her eyes, and rewinds… both her relationship and her work improve because of this. Can she save her make her relationship with Will work by rewinding? Will she keep her job?

Cassie is a lovely person, she loves Greek mythology- she was named after the Trojan princess Casssandra, and the wife of Odysseus: Penelope. Her mother was a Cambridge professor in Classic studies. Cassie weaves similarities to some myths into her life – and I absolutely loved it (Greek mythology is really one of my loves). Cassie definitely seems neurodivergent, and she wears her heart on her sleeve.

I was sad to see this book end, because I so loved it. The best book I read in May this year!
