Book 2 of The Devil Wears Prada Series
Ten years after the day she told her boss Miranda Priestly to f..k off in Paris, Andrea “Andy” Sachs is still plagued by nightmares about her time at Runway as Miranda’s assistant. Andy is now the editor of her own, and her best friend Emily’s magazine The Plunge, a high end bridal magazine.
In the year after the Paris incident, Andy broke up with her boyfriend Alex, her bestie Lily moved to Colorado and her parents got divorced – she didn’t have a good year. She started working for an online magazine about weddings and decided to take a cooking class. In the class she bumped into Emily, her former colleague at Runway. They bonded over their hate for Miranda and became best friends.
Emily introduced Andy to the rich bachelor Max Harrison, and in the first chapter of the book, they are about to get married. Already dressed in her wedding gown, Andy finds a letter from Max’ mother Barbara to her son begging him not to marry Andy. For days after the wedding Andy feels off sick and she’s not sure whether it is about the letter or whether there’s something physically wrong with her.
Emily and Andy are approached by a lawyer at Elias-Clark, the company that owns Runway as they want to acquire The Plunge. They are offering an exorbitant amount and Emily wants to take it, whereas Andy is terrified of having to deal with Miranda Priestly again. They are able to postpone their decision for a while…
I actually enjoyed this book more than The Devil Wears Prada. I think Andy’s anguish over having to work with Miranda was justified as the woman was impossible to deal with. I liked the peek into Andy’s personal life, this book is not all about Miranda like the previous one. And I was appalled at Emily’s betrayal.
