The unnamed main character, known as the bridegroom, who believes in fairy tales married a beautiful, mysterious, rich woman called Indigo Maxwell-Casteñeda. Her only rule is: no questions about the past. But when Indigo’s estranged aunt Hyacintha falls terminally ill, they go to her childhood home, the House of Dreams. Once they’re in the House of Dreams, the bridegroom learns about Indigo’s childhood friend Azure.
The story is told from two points of view: Azure and the bridegroom.
I was totally engrossed in this story and read it in one sitting… not that strange for me as I read a book a day most days. However, this book had my attention from the get go! Roshani Chokshi weaves a magical tale about a mysterious and magical house and the people who live in it. Unfortunately, I found Indigo self absorbed and unlikeable, that’s why it’s four stars. Azure is only marginally better, but she’s not a spoilt brat to begin with – Indigo did rub off on her though.
