Veronica Barrington is newly divorced and her children are grown and living their own lives. Her ex is having a baby with his new partner and keeps wanting to change her alimony payments. She starts looking for a job and when she comes across Mariah Ellsworth’s ad in which she looks for a companion for a trip to London, Paris, Morocco and India.
Mariah is learning to live with an injury that ended her career as an Olympic snowboarder, and she’s mourning the loss of her mother. Because of her physical limitations, she needs someone who can help with the suitcases etc, and this is where Veronica comes in. Mariah wants to do research for a book about Parsi cafes in honour of her mother Rachel who was a food writer.
Joining them on the trip is Rachel’s ex-boyfriend, Henry, a former war photographer, and the closest thing to a father Mariah’s ever known. While Mariah sleeps and rests, Veronica and Henry become closer…
Barbara O’Neal always manages to almost bring me to tears with her books. I loved the information about the Parsi cafes in this book. Mariah could be a real brat and Veronica did start off as a bit of a doormat. The fact that I felt like I was there with them, especially in the places I haven’t visited yet (Morocco and India) made this a definite 5 star read.
