Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians

Economics professor Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend Nicholas Young. However, Nick has neglected to tell her that his family is filthy rich and that he’s considered the most eligible bachelor in Singapore. Rachel, whose family is from mainland China, is not deemed a suitable match for Nick by his mother (who doesn’t care what his family thinks).

The first time I picked this book up, I struggled to make it through the first chapter. Needless to say, I didn’t finish it. A few months later, I watched the film and thought it was okay (though chicklit generally isn’t my thing, I’ll watch a romcom every now and again). So this week, I decided to give the book another shot – this time as an audiobook. I really disliked Nick’s family and friends in Singapore, especially his former girlfriends who looked down their nose at Rachel.
