Book 10 of the Hercule Poirot Series
The famous Orient Express is stopped in the Balkans during a snowdrift. In the morning, one of the passenger is found dead in his compartment. The American tycoon was stabbed multiple times and the door to his compartment was locked from the inside. It’s up to Hercule Poirot to solve this murder, even though he is on vacation!
Poirot soon deduces that the murder is linked to the kidnapping and murder of little Daisy Armstrong by a man called Ratchett. Among the suspects are:
- Count & Countess Andrenyis: a Hungarian couple
- Colonel Arbuthnot: a friend of Daisy’s father
- Princess Dragomiroff: a Russian noblewoman
- Mrs Hubbard (aka Linda Arden): Daisy’s grandmother
It’s always a pleasure to re-read an Agatha Christie mystery. Hercule Poirot is not my favourite detective (I love Tommy & Tuppence) but he is certainly an effective one. This time I listened to the audiobook read by Kenneth Branagh which was excellent since he portrayed Poirot in the latest film adaptation of Murder on the Orientation Express.
