Book 1 of the Kappy King Mystery Kapers
Kathryn “Kappy” King has always been considered an odd duck in her Amish community. She makes the kapps the Amish women use to cover their hair and is very skilled at her job. She is unmarried and lives alone in the house her aunt left her.
Kappy’s neighbour Ruth Peachey, the breeder of Beagles, is found dead in her barn and everyone assumes it is a tragic accident. Then the police arrest Ruth’s mentally disabled son Jimmy. Kappy is convinced Jimmy didn’t kill his mother. Together with Ruth’s daughter Edith, who returns from the “English” world to look after her mother’s business, Kappy starts her own investigation. Edie needs Kappy’s helpbecause no one in the Amish community will speak to her, as she is shunned for leaving after she was baptised. Kappy and Edie become good friends, something Kappy has sorely missed since her only friend passed away.
A very cute mystery book. Loved the description of all of Edie’s interesting outfits – the woman likes colour. Kappy is a very loveable character. Even though the book is targeted towards young teenagers, I may have to purchase the rest of the series at some point.
