This is the first book in The Inheritance Cycle.
Eragon is a poor farmer boy who finds a blue stone in the forest. The blue stone turns out to be a dragon’s egg. When it hatches Eragon finds out he’s to be a dragon rider. Overnight he is thrown into a world of magic, destiny and power. He finds his uncle’s farm burned to the ground and his uncle is dead. He has to flee with Brom, the village’s storyteller who knows a thing or two about dragons.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it, except for the dragon’s voice. Saphira is a female dragon and she sounds like one of the muppets in The Muppet Show. I get that she doesn’t have to sound like a human female, but I did not like this voice. Other than that the narrator is spot on with his voices! I am currently listening to the second book in the series, and the Saphira voice is starting to grow on me a little. Maybe I’ll get used to it eventually!
I loved the story too. Then someone on GoodReads likened Eragon to Lord of the Rings with dragons, and now that’s going around in my head…
