When a body is found in Finlay’s neighbour Mrs Haggarty’s garden, the suspicion soon falls on Finlay’s ex-husband Steven who did the landscaping for the Haggartys. Mrs Haggarty, who had been eliminated as a suspect by the police, has nowhere to stay because there’s no electricity in the house. So she shows up on Finlay’s doorstep with a couple of suitcases and her grandson. Mrs Haggarty has decided she is staying with Finlay and she will not take no for an answer.
Finlay, and her nanny Vero, are not happy with this sudden houseguest, especially since Delia – Finlay’s 6 year old daughter – has been suspended from school for fighting. Mrs Haggarty turns out to be an excellent ally for Delia.
I absolutely adore the Finlay Donovan series, they’re witty and highly entertaining. Mrs Haggarty has been a recurring character in the books and she always seemed like an annoying busybody. In this book we learn that she’s an absolute baddass! She’s my new hero!
