Book 1 of the Finlay Donovan Series
Finlay Donovan is a writer in her 30s. She’s recently divorced from Steven and has two small children: Delia and Zach. Steven has fired Finlay’s babysitter Vero, just when she needs her the most since she has an appointment with her literary agent. She manages to make it to her appointment after dropping Delia at school – after ‘fixing’ her hair with duct tape (at Delia’s insistence) and dropping Zach off with Steven. Unfortunately, Finlay doesn’t have good news for her agent who tells her to kill a few people and this conversation is overheard by a woman in the restaurant. The woman tells Finlay in a note she will pay her $50,000.00 for killing her husband.
When Finlay investigates the man, she finds out he’s a terrible person. He tries to roofie a woman in a bar, and Finlay switches their drinks. When the man is unconscious in the back of Finlay’s minivan, he dies! Now she has to get rid of the body. But where? Thankfully Vero has taken this evening to fetch her things and the two women start working together… Then police detective Nick enters her life – he’s a colleague of her sister Georgina – complicating things. Bartender/law student Julian is another man who is interested in Finlay.
This book is so funny and cleverly written. Finlay has a knack of getting herself into trouble. Thankfully, she’s quick on her feet, and Vero is very helpful. I absolutely love this book!
