Book 1 of the Chicago Heartbreakers Series
Maggie Redford is the photographer of the Chicago baseball team. She and her friend Olivia are responsible for all the photos on the team’s social media sites. At night she likes to stay in and watch romantic comedies like Pretty Woman instead of going out.
Tommy Mikals is the new guy on the team. He has quite the reputation for partying and changing girlfriends more often than his underwear. His partying got him in trouble with his previous club and Chicago is the only team that dared take him on.
When Olivia convinces Maggie to go to the club where all the players gather, Maggie doesn’t feel at ease and wants to leave. Tommy offers to drive her home and a paparazzo snaps a photo of the two of them together.
The following day Maggie and Tommy are summoned by the club owner for a meeting. Maggie is afraid she’ll be fired even though nothing happened between her and Tommy. However, the owner has another idea – she suggests that Tommy and Maggie start fake dating, just for photos on social media and to rehabilitate Tommy’s reputation.
You can see the plot from a mile away, but it was a cute read. Thankfully it wasn’t filled with semi pornographic love scenes (I’m not a fan as you may know) – there was one steamy scene in the book. Other than that it was quite wholesome.
I did enjoy this book more than I thought I would – I know nothing about baseball, I mean I played softball in school during the summers and was not good at it… and I live in the UK where baseball is not really shown – there wasn’t a lot of baseball in the book though. The romance was cute enough but quite predictable.
