Rachel Holloway works as an account for a newspaper in London. When she returns from holiday, one of her colleagues tells her that the paper is in trouble and they might need to close for business. Her boss calls a meeting in which they propose a plan to save the paper: a podcast about a girl who went missing twelve years ago. Rachel is terrified when they say the name Molly Forster, because, Rachel wasn’t always called Rachel – for the first twelve years of her life her name was Molly Forster. She’s scared that the person who killed her parents and sister, and who tied to kill her will now find her and kill her and her new family – her partner Matt and her daughter Gracie.
As her colleagues try to find out what happened to Molly, she realises it seems like everyone thinks that Molly is dead, which suits Rachel. She gets caught up in proving that the person who everyone thought was the killer didn’t do it. Rachel is one of three people who know what happened that day, and the other two have covered it up by pointing the finger at the guy who killed himself while in custody.
Because Barelli tells us in the first chapter that Molly is alive, and tries to cover things up for the first part of the book, I wanted to know what happened between the murders and the start of the podcast. This is a great read – Natalie Barelli writes good thrillers that keep me on the edge of my seat!
