Fallon was injured in a house fire. She was a teenage actress who starred in her own show, but after the fire the show was cancelled. On the second anniversary of the fire, Fallon meets her dad as she is about to move from Los Angeles to New York. Fallon gets in a fight with her dad and a stranger comes to her rescue. Ben, a boy her age, gives her dad a tongue lashing. The two teens spend the day together and by the time Fallon is getting on her plane, they are infatuated with each other. They make a pact to meet every November 9th until they’re 23 (Fallon’s mother told her not to get into a serious relationship until she was 23).
The 2nd November 9th, Fallon arrives late and Ben asks her to meet him at his house. Fallon meets Ben’s brothers and his almost sister-in-law Jordyn. Fallon also witnesses how Ben is attacked by his brother Kyle, the groom to be.
The 3rd November 9th the two are meant to meet in New York. Fallon arrives at the restaurant and waits for Ben when a waitress tells her she has a phone call. Ben is on the phone telling her that Kyle has died in a car accident two days prior. They agree to meet at the same place the following year. Ben is pleasantly surprised when Fallon appears at his door. They make plans for Ben to join her in New York when Jordyn, now pregnant, moves back to her parents’ house… but things turn out differently when Fallon returns to New York alone.
Colleen Hoover has the ability to make me cry (especially in Reminders of Him). This book again had me reading breathlessly with tears in my eyes. I liked the plot as well.
