The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

The Gilded Wolves

Book 1 of The Gilded Wolves Series

Séverin Montagnet-Alarie is a treasure hunter and wealthy hotelier. As a child he was ousted from the ever-powerful elite Order of Babel when his house was declared extinct. Séverin is now after the most important treasure: his true inheriance.

To hunt down the artifact, Séverin asks a band of experts for help: the engineer Zofia Boguska, the historian Enrique Mercado-Lopez, the dancer Laila, also known as  L’Énigme, and his brother in arms Tristan Maréchal. They join Séverin in robbing the House Kore on their estate in 1889 Paris – the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the city. They may change the course of history – if they manage to stay alive.

This was a lovely read, I definitely liked the female characters – so very different from each other. The male characters were interesting – Enrique is a little annoying asking time and time again whether he’s still pretty… and yawn, he is.

The story is great, it has that magical realism that I love, so I cannot wait to read the sequel (probably for one of the challenges next year)!
