Book 1 of The Martian
Mark Watney was one of the first people to walk on Mars, and he’s surely going to be the first to die there. He’s been left stranded at the base camp and has no way to signal Earth that he’s been left there. He plants potatoes in a bid to survive as long as possible. He’s not giving up to contact Earth either.
The endless descriptions of potatoes were too much for me. I hate potatoes, and I think this fictional character agrees with me after having nothing but spuds to feast on for weeks on end.
I wanted to love this book, but it didn’t do anything for me.
