Margaret Ryan, Viv Buschetti and Betsy Cobb are suburban housewives in North Carolina, and they appear to have it all. However, this “all” doesn’t feel like enough and it leaves them feel guilty. Then they start a book club with their new neighbour, artsy and eccentric Charlotte Gustafson, from Manhattan.
The first book they read is the newly released “The Feminine Mystique” by Betty Friedan. The book is controversial and groundbreaking, and strikes a chord with lots of women. Margaret, Viv, Betty and Charlotte come to the realisation that they are not alone in feeling dissatisfied with their lives and their longings. Is it the book that changes their lives? Or is it the bond of the sisterhood.
This book is beautifully written. It really drew me in from the first chapter and kept me entertained until the end. I recommend it!
