Book 2 of the Outlander Series
Claire Randall has kept her secrets for twenty years. After her husband Frank’s death, she takes her daughter Brianna to Scotland in 1968. Claire and Brianna visit with Roger Wakefield, a young historian. Brianna and Roger fall in love with each other instantly, and Claire takes a liking to the young man as well.
Claire divulges her time travel secret – she tells Brianna and Roger about her time with Jamie Fraser. She tells them about her pregnancy and the loss of their baby while they were in Paris, where Jamie worked as a wine merchant and Claire volunteered at the hospital. They were part of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s (Charles Edward Louis John Sylvester Maria Casimir Stuart) inner circle who was planning to invade England to restore the Stuart monarchy under his father.
Roger finds out that Jamie didn’t die at the battle of Culloden as Claire had always assumed.
I really enjoy this series, even if I’m not a fan of the bodice ripping part of it, the romance is cute (Brianna and Roger) and the historical aspect of these books is fabulous. I will try to read a few more books of the series this year so I can review them. I’m looking forward to the next one!
