Bridget Jones is in a relationship with human rights lawyer Mark Darcy but is wondering whether the romance is fading. She feels threatened by Rebecca, a young, wealthy, and conventionally attractive colleague of Mark’s. Rebecca engineers a situation that tricks Bridget into thinking Mark is unfaithful, leading Bridget to end the relationship. Guided by bad advice from her friends and conflicting self-help manuals, Bridget constantly misinterprets Mark’s actions.
Bridget continues to work in television and lands an awkward interview with actor Colin Firth who she idolises because of his role as Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice.
Seeking a fresh perspective, Bridget joins a trip to Thailand with her friend Shazzer. Disaster strikes when luggage containing smuggled narcotics is mistakenly swapped with hers at the airport. Bridget is arrested and thrown into a Thai prison, where she charms her fellow inmates by organising Madonna-singalong sessions.
Mark Darcy steps in behind the scenes to secure her release, proving his enduring devotion to Bridget.
The first Bridget Jones book was relatable, this one is a little more slapstick and not quite as believable as the first. However, it was nice to re-read this book (I had read it when it first came out).
