Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Daisy Jones & the Six

This book tells the story of the rise and fall of the fictional band The Six with their temporary front woman Daisy Jones. The group only made one album together before the cooperation imploded and they went their seperate ways. The reason for this was the love/hate relationship between Daisy and The Six’s frontman Billy Dunne.

Daisy grew up in the 60s in Los Angeles, she’s a wealthy, neglected girl with an incredibly unique and mesmerising voice. She has a penchant for drugs and rock ‘n roll.

Brothers Billy and Graham Dunne were born and raised in Pennsylvania and they formed the band The Dunne Brothers. They rebranded the band after moving to LA to The Six. Billy marries Camilla Martinez, and though he cheats on her sometimes, she is the love of his life. Billy also loves the drugs and rock ‘n roll lifestyle.

The Six’s producer brings Daisy and the Six together because he thinks that some of Billy’s lyrics can do with female vocals on it. And he was right, they’re an instant hit!

The story of the band is told through interviews about twenty years later. All members of the band and Daisy are interviewed. This takes place after Camilla’s death.

The story is loosely based on the band Fleetwood Mac. Daisy definitely makes you think of Stevie Nicks. This book was a re-read for me. I didn’t like it the first time I read it, but I did like the TV show (I read the book first). So with that in mind, I thought I should try to re-read the book. And I’m glad I did!
