Quicksilver by Callie Hart

Quicksilver

Fae & Alchemy Series Book 1

Saeris Fane is a human thief who escapes execution by accidentally wakening an ancient portal. She is transported to Yvelia, a frozen fae realm where she learns she’s an alchemist, a rare manipulator of sentient quicksilver and space. She’s bonded to a brooding fae warrior called Kingfisher by a magical oath.
When Kingfisher’s sister, Everlayne, is kidnapped, Saeris and her companions travel to the dangerous territory called Sisroth where the vampires rule. Though Saeris is able to defeat the vampire king Malcolm, she suffers mortal wounds. The only way they can save her life, is by turning her into a vampire. When she meets the god of chaos, Zerith, he changes her into half vampire, half fae.

I’d seen this book in my recommendations quite a bit, but as I normally do not read a lot of romantasy, I left it. Until PopSugar came up with this prompt: a shadow daddy – meaning:

A “shadow daddy” is a popular character archetype in romantic fantasy literature (often called “romantasy”). It describes a brooding, powerful, and morally grey male love interest who literally wields shadow or dark magic. They are usually depicted as ancient yet youthful, intimidating, and obsessively protective of the protagonist.

Kingfisher, a brooding fae who is over a century old, definitely qualifies!
