Book 2 of the Practical Magic series
”Do not drink milk after a thunderstorm, for it will certainly be sour. Always leave out seed for the birds when the first snow falls. Wash your hair with rosemary. Drink lavender tea when you cannot sleep. Know that the only remedy for love is to love more.”
This book of the series is about the siblings Frances (Franny), Bridget (Jet) and Vincent Owens – they are the descendants of Maria Owens. From an early age, they are aware of the Owens curse: their ancestor Maria had cursed anyone who would love an Owens. They all vowed never to fall in love, but when Jet met the reverend’s son Levi, she fell head over heels, as did he. However, shortly after they got together, Levi died in a car accident. Franny refused to love the boy who loved her and Vincent faked his own death so he could be with the man he loved: William. Unbeknownst to him, Vincent fathered a child with their distant cousin April: Regina.
I think I loved this book more than Practical Magic – it has so many interesting tidbits about the Owens family in it. I absolutely loved Jet’s story, her relationship with Levi is heartbreaking as it ended so abruptly but her consequent relationship with a hotel’s bellhop is so lovely. Franny is an interesting character, even though she’s grumpy and sometimes even mean, her love story is sad…
