Book 1 in the Discworld series
The main character of this novel is a cynical and incompetent wizard called Rincewind who has been hired to accompany Twoflower, an insurance clerk, who has come to Ankh-Morpork, the largest city on the Discworld. Rincewind had planned to make a run for it with his advance payment for his services, but he’s apprehended and forced to protect Twoflower.
Twoflower is kidnapped, and alongside the Luggage, an enchanted travel chest belonging to Twoflower, Rincewind sets out to save Twoflower.
I have tried to read this book for well over 2 decades, but it just didn’t grab me at all. This time, I chose to listen to the audiobook but I still had trouble. Many friends who love the Discworld series have told me that though The Colour of Magic is the first book in the series, it’s not the best place to start. I think I’m going to have to resign myself to the fact that this book was just not for me… and maybe this series isn’t either.
