All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot

All Creatures Great and Small

Book 1 of the All Creatures Great and Small Series

This memoir is written by veterinarian James Herriot, who started his career in the Yorkshire Dales mostly dealing with livestock and the occasional spoiled pooch. The stories about the spoiled doggy are hilarious and endearing.

I remember All Creatures Great and Small was on TV in the 70s and my dad absolutely adored the show. He even got the book (he wasn’t much of a reader) and laughed at all the anecdotes. My dad passed away in 1982, but I can remember this so vividly! So reading this book reminded me of my dad and my childhood.

Therefore I really enjoyed the book, it made me feel connected to my dad again… I had never read the book as I was a child in the 70s – one who did read pretty much everything but a book about a veterinarian didn’t interest me back then – it does now though!
