Brisingr by Christopher Paolini

Book 3 of the Inheritance Cycle.

I’ve really enjoyed this series so far. However, I read a review of Eragon on GoodReads which compared the books to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and now I can’t unsee it. Nevertheless, the Inheritance cycle is a series of books that are worth a read. Brisingr, at 748 pages is a hefty tome! I listened to the audiobook and even at 2x speed it takes a few days to get through it.

In this book Eragon gets a new sword since Murtagh took the one that Brom gave to him. He is asked to christen the sword and the word that appears in his mind is Brisingr, fire in the old tongue. As a result the sword lights up with fire when he calls its name.

Eragon also finds out who his real father is, which is a welcome surprise and this means that Murtagh is only his half sibling.

It’s an enjoyable read.
