Courting Samira by Amal Awad

Samira Abdel-Aziz is a twenty seven year old single Muslim woman who lives in Sydney, Australia. She studied Communications and now works as an assistant at a bridal magazine, Bridal Bazaar. Samira is obsessed with The Princess Bride (and who can blame her), and her childhood friend Hakeem is always trying to get her to read literature, but Samira prefers romantic movies. However, her own love life still leaves a lot to be desired. She has her fair share of door-knockers, as she calls the setups by her family, but she always finds fault with them.

At a team building event Samira bumps into a Lebanese guy, Menem, who is very attractive and seems really nice. When she goes to her cousin Zahra’s engagement party, she finds out that Menem is Zahra’s new fiancé’s younger brother. Zahra gives Menem Samira’s email address and they start talking via email and text messages, and go for the occasional coffee. Cue romance. However, Samira’s best friend and cousin thinks she should be with Hakeem and tries to convince her to dump Menem.

A quick read I really did enjoy, it’s nice to learn about other culture’s customs and traditions. Samira is a modern woman who loves movies, especially rom-coms and she now stars in her own.
