It’s late summer 1793 and 14 year old Mattie Cook has lost her childhood best friend to a mysterious illness that has claimed lives all over Philadelphia. When her mother falls ill as well, Mattie is forced to leave home and the city before the scary epidemic claims her life.
This book is an excellent read. I like the scrappy character of Mattie who is a survivor. The situation is scary because they don’t know what the illness is, and what causes it, but thankfully Mattie remains healthy.
