Finders Keepers by Stephen King

Book 2 of the Bill Hodges trilogy.

John Rothstein is considered a genius, he’s the author of the Jimmy Gold trilogy, but he hasn’t published anything in decades. Morris Bellamy is mad at Rothstein for sending his hero, Jimmy Gold, into a direction he didn’t agree with so he kills the author. He and his co-conspirator find money in Rothstein’s safe, but more importantly, there’s a lot of notebooks in there too and Morris is convinced there’s an unpublished Jimmy Gold book hidden in there. Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and is then convicted for another crime.

Decades later, Pete Saubers finds the money and notebooks. Pete’s father was one of the wounded of the Mr Mercedes attack. His family is struggling for money, so he starts sending $500 anonymously to his parents every month. The money helps the family while his father convalesces from his injuries. But then Morris is released from prison and he wants his treasure back. It’s up to Bill, with the help of Holly and Jerome to save Pete and his family.

This book was a good read, Bill Hodges is a curmudgeonly man but Holly is a good influence on him, and he on her!
