In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune

This is a retelling of Pinocchio with robots and I really hated every second of it. I’m so not interested in robot penises or robot sex!

This one just wasn’t for me. I adored TJ Klune’s The House in the Cerulean Sea and really enjoyed Under the Whispering Door. Yet this book failed to grab me from the get-go. I listened to the audiobook and the voices the narrator invented for the robots just grated and well that was one thing that put me off.

The story is about Victor, a human boy, who grows up with robots because his ‘father’ Giovanni Lawson is an android and inventor. They live hidden in the woods with a few other robots. Vic rescues HAP, and Hap unwittingly signals Gio’s former employer’s and Gio is captured. Vic and the robots go on a mission to save Giovanni.
