I think almost everyone has seen the film, but have you read the book? I hadn’t and when I saw it fitted one of the PopSugar Reading Challenge’s prompts this year, I decided to give it a go because the film is one of my guilty pleasures… there I’ve said it.
Elle Wood is in love with Warner Huntingdon III, they’ve been going out for 3 years. So when he asks her out on an important date, she thinks he’ll pop the question. However, when they’re at the restaurant he doesn’t give her a ring, but he gives her the bracelet she gave him back and breaks up with her. He tells her he is going to Stanford law school and has to get a serious girlfriend, not someone like her. Elle is heartbroken and after a little while, she decides she will win Warner back and apply to law school as well. When she gets to Stanford she finds out that Warner now has a fiancée called Sarah who hates Elle on sight. Elle is chosen as an intern to assist in Brooke Vandermark’s case because she knows all the gossip.
Even though the book is very different to the film, I really enjoyed it. I did like it there was no love interest for Elle in this book, she decided not to get back with Warner, without being in love with someone else. She does spend a lot of time mooning over Warner, but when push comes to shove she realises he’s a loser and not worthy of her love. Yeah, I really liked this book.
Read for the PopSugar Reading Challenge 2024.
