This historical fantasy is set in the Golden Age, in Madrid. Luiza Cotado uses magic to get through the days. When her mistress finds out, she forces Luiza to use her gifts to better her family’s position. Because of this Antonio Pérez, the disgraced secretary of the Spanish king, notices Luiza. Now she’s plunged into a world of seers and alchemists, whilst hiding the fact that she’s Jewish for if they’d find out, the Inquisition would prosecute her.
A wonderful novel that mixes true history with fantasy elements. Highly recommended!
