The Leftover Woman by Jean Kwok

The Leftover Woman

Jasmine Yang escapes her controlling husband in China and comes to New York to find her daughter. For several years she was told her daughter was dead, only to find out her husband gave her away shortly after she was born in the hopes that they could have another child, a son. Once Jasmine finds out, she sets out to find her child. In New York, she finds a job in a strip club as a waitress.

Rebecca is an editor and her husband is a professor at Columbia University. Their adopted daughter Fiona (Fifi) is Chinese, and because her parents want her to speak the language they hire a Chinese nanny, Lucy.

This book! OMG! It has to be the best book I’ve read so far this year! Jean Kwok’s writing is eloquent and prosaic. The plot is fantastic and credible. This book is amazing!
