Esther Wilding’s sister Aura disappeared a year ago. At the memorial her parents insisted on, her mother asks Esther to investigate what Aura did in Denmark in the 3 years prior to returning to Australia and disappearing.
Esther initially doesn’t want to go, but she does go. She spends time with her relative Abalone. She learns about the art Aura posted about in her journal. Then she finds out that Aura spent time in the Faroe Islands.
The Faroe Islands are next on Esther’s travel itinerary – she learns about her sister’s love, a decades old secret in her sister’s life, and a devastating event that took place in the Faroe Islands.
The devastating event broke my heart, I almost cried (I don’t cry when reading books but I was close). This book was interesting and beautifully written.
Esther undertook a journey both physically and metaphorically to find out about her sister’s “missing years” in which she had no contact with her.
