Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls

Fifteen year old Fern is sent to a home for unwed mothers in St. Augustine, Florida for the last few months of her pregnancy. The librarian brings the girls a book on witchcraft and they start messing around with it – Zinnia has terrible morning sickness and the doctor says it’s nothing to worry about – they make sure that the doctor gets Zinnia’s morning sickness. Rose is tormented by Miss Wellwood so she decides to put her in her place. The girls try to save fourteen year old Holly from her baby’s father, her parish preacher.

When the girls start playing around with magic, it’s all fun and games to begin with. Pretty soon, they learn that there are consequences to this, and they have to pay… but how?

It annoys me that witches still get bad press – they’re evil, and yes, in this book they are, because a book about nature loving hippie like witches isn’t fun I suppose. Having said that, I did really enjoy this book. Grady Hendrix’s books always keep me entertained and this one was no different.
